The official opening of Golcar Scout and Community Centre
4th Huddersfield Golcar Scout Group celebrated their 60th anniversary on the 23rd of July 2011, what better time to open a new chapter in the local Community than to officially re launch the Centre on the same date.
Dr Ingrid Roscoe, The Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, officially opened the centre after speeches by Councillor Eric Firth, The Mayor of Kirklees and Jamie Lockwood representing The Winkle Club, who kindly made a donation to the future renovation projects during the opening ceremony.
Tim Kidd, Chief Commissioner of England for The Scout Association, along with the help of one of our Beavers, officially opened The Gilwell Room. The Gilwell Room was designed to provide meeting room facilities for up to 15 people, this room also hosts selected items from the Group’s Archives, which are on display.
Throughout the day, guests including; past and present members, parents, supporters, the local community and members from The Scout Association, were given the chance to have a go at archery, visit our temporary campsite and learn about the history of Scouting in both Golcar and the UK.
